This is an online, ten-week course that will introduce participants to the fundamentals of creating viable and original TV drama and comedy series concepts. Course tutor is Vicki Madden, a highly experienced TV Writer whose credits include Story Producer on The Bill as well Australian series Water Rats, Stingers, Halifax fp, Blue Heelers and McLeod’s Daughters.
The course comprises ten modules with a wide variety of learning activities in a lively online chat forum and includes:
+ viewing and analysis of existing drama and comedy
+ online group activities
+ individual assignments and tutor feedback
+ students will be supplied with course notes for individual download

Specific areas to be explored are the creation of a dramatic world, the ‘what if’ conceptual question, development and creation of a dynamic protagonist, the use of secondary characters, primary and secondary storylines and assembling a series concept document.

Participants should begin the course with the germ of an idea for a TV drama or comedy concept in mind. This should not be an idea that has already been fully developed as a concept. The intention of this course is to guide participants though the process of concept creation from idea inception to concept presentation.
