This five day, intensive, high-end course offers up-to-the-minute skills for aspiring multi-camera directors. Led by leading industry professionals, the workshop will cover all facets of directing multi-cameras including set/ guest and camera placement, lighting for multi cam genres and lens choice.
From Network television to Subscription TV, studio multi-camera style production are still a popular choice in News, Sport and Current Affairs, Variety, Game Shows, Panel Shows, Demonstration programs and children’s television. They will continue to be a staple of the Australian Television industry landscape, however it is rare that multi-camera directing training is offered anywhere in the Industry.
The course will be made up of short screenings, discussions, demonstrations and daily hands-on directing exercises with feedback from industry professionals including:
• Simon Francis – entertainment
• Martin Coombs – panel comedy
• Wayne O’Donnell – 3D Multicamera
This course will be conducted in our newly refurbished, industry standard, High Definition Television Studio which features:
• Sony MVS7000, 4 M/E Vision Switcher with 2 channel DME
• 4 Sony HSC300 HD Studio Cameras on Vinten Pedestals + remote cameras
• 4 Channel EVS Server Record / Replay System
• Character Generator and Digital Audio Mixer
The course will give students and participant’s daily hands on directing experience in a real world / real time multicamera HD Studio Environment, covering the following multicamera genres:
• News/ Current affairs including Interview
• Panel
• Demonstration
• Game show formats
• Multicamera Variety/performance (dance sequence).
You will train with industry professionals who will fill the roles of:
• Lighting Director
• Directors assistant
• Camera operators
• Audio director
• And floor manager
Presenters/Panellists’ will be students supervised by Tracey Spicer, one of the most experienced TV and radio presenters in the country. The Variety Performances will be involve coverage of a dance routines choreographed by Jason Winters, Head of Contemporary Dance at Brent Street, Performing Arts.
Course Director, David Summons, has 20 Years experience as a Television Director/Producer. As Senior supervising director at Channel Nine he was responsible for live and weekly multicamera shows including the Today Show, The Ray Martin Show, The Footy Show and a variety of game shows as well as numerous a sporting and live event shows. David currently is Senior Director at Sky News Australia.
This course will suit industry professionals who already have studio experience in another role, or substantial single-camera directing experience. It is not suitable for beginners and there are limited course places available.
NB an option to pay 50% of course cost as a deposit, with the remaining 50% due 14 days prior to course commencement.
