REGIONAL: Screenwriters' Weekend - Armidale
The AFTRS Open Regional Screenwriter’s Weekend will give you the essential tools and techniques for writing your own story for the screen.
This intensive and ‘hands-on’ workshop will explore the many different types of story and the importance of structure, how to build scenes and create compelling characters through your writing.
Using a range of practical exercises, discussion and selected movie clips, we will lead you through the stages of script development, exploring plot points, sub plots, alternative story structures and genres. Participants will go deeper into the techniques for developing better characters to tell your story.
Led by accomplished writer, actor and director Dr Carl Caulfield, participants will work on practical exercises and tips on writing synopses, treatments and step outlines as well as how to pitch your story as you work toward your first draft. Some films used include range from classics such as Chinatown and Casablanca through to Pulp Fiction, The Big Chill, Taxi Driver and Slumdog Millionaire and more.
This intensive course will get you closer to a better first draft and propel your screenwriting journey!
